TALK: The cultural impact of Neorealism film on Roman Architecture

June 2026, British School of Rome, Rome

Submitted as part of the open call for the Architectural Association 2026 Media–Architecture Forum, this talk explores the impact of Italian Neorealism on post-war Roman architecture. By analysing mid-century cinema, it demonstrates how neorealist directors used temporal media to transform the urban fabric from a passive backdrop into an active, storytelling entity. Ultimately, the presentation highlights how this cinematic movement constructed new socio-cultural knowledge, forever altering public perception of Rome’s built environment.
